Privacy Policy

Go Birds is a private app for one group of friends who watch Philadelphia Eagles games together. It is not a commercial service, it has no advertising, and it is not open to the public. You can only get in through a personal invite link, and signing in means proving you control the email address or phone number on your account.

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are used only to send you the reminders you asked for, and are never shared with anyone outside the service providers listed below who deliver those messages on our behalf.

What we collect

Only what the app needs to run a watch party:

  • The name you choose. Shown to everyone else in the group.
  • Your email address and/or phone number. At least one, because it's how you sign in: we send a 6-digit code there. Also used for the reminders you switch on, and nothing else.
  • What you post. RSVPs, the dish you're bringing, chat messages, any photos you upload, and game-day play: score picks, bingo cards, and dish-of-the-week votes.
  • A sign-in cookie. One cookie that keeps you signed in for a year. No advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party analytics.
  • Sign-in codes. Only a one-way hash of each code is stored, never the code itself, and it's discarded once used or after ten minutes.
  • Google account details — optional. If you choose to connect Google as a faster way to sign in, we receive your Google account ID, email address, name, and profile picture. Nobody has to use it.

Text messages

Go Birds sends two kinds of text, and only to a number you entered yourself. We never text a number someone else gave us: invites are sent by the person inviting you, from their own phone. The full opt-in flow, with screenshots, is at /sms.

  • Sign-in codes. If you sign in with your phone number, we text that number a single 6-digit code. It's a one-time message and doesn't sign you up for anything else.
  • Reminders — only if you opt in. Nothing recurring is sent until you enter your number on your profile and check the "Text me" box, which is unchecked by default. Then you get an RSVP reminder two days before a watch party, a reminder the morning of the game with the kickoff time, where it is, and what people are bringing, and a note when there are new chat messages you haven't seen.
  • Halftime update — a separate opt-in. If you also check "Halftime update", which is unchecked by default, you get one message at halftime of each game with the score and how the group's picks and bingo are going. Checking "Text me" alone never sends it.
  • How often. Message frequency varies — up to a few texts a week during the football season, and none in the off-season. There are no marketing messages, ever.
  • Stopping them. Reply STOP to any message, or uncheck "Text me" on your profile. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

Who processes your data

The app runs on a handful of providers, who process this information only in order to operate the app on our behalf:

  • Vercel. Hosts the website (United States).
  • Supabase. Hosts the database where your name, contact details, and posts are stored (United States).
  • Twilio. Delivers text messages, if you have opted in.
  • Resend. Delivers email reminders, if you have opted in.
  • Google. Only if you choose to connect it as an alternative sign-in.
  • ESPN. Scores, standings, team logos and player photos come from ESPN. Your browser loads the logos and photos straight from ESPN's servers; nothing about you is sent to ESPN otherwise.

Photos

Photos posted in the chat are stored at long, randomly generated web addresses. They are not listed or indexed anywhere, but anyone who has the exact link can open it without signing in. Please keep that in mind before posting something sensitive.

How long we keep it

For as long as the group is running, or until you delete your account — which you can do yourself at any time from your profile page, without asking anyone. That removes your profile, your contact details, your RSVPs, dishes, messages, and photos immediately and permanently.

Children

This app is intended for the adults in our group. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
